In a society where miscommunication, deception, and discrimination are rampant, the stakes are higher than ever for people who are viewed as different. In instance, autism can take many different forms and affect people on the spectrum in a variety of ways.Acceptance is desperately needed, as 1 in 36 children and 1 in 45 people are estimated to have autism spectrum disorder. These days, misconceptions about autism and the prevalence of exclusion pose a threat to the essential knowledge, resources, and assistance that individuals with autism and their families require. However, it is precisely when faced with this obstacle that we become strong.
Within the autistic community, autistic Speaks has been a vital information resource and a driving force for deep connections for almost 20 years. We have been unwavering supporters, sticking by those with autism at every turn in their lives.
We still have no fear.
Our mission is driven by the fearlessness of those who dare to embrace diversity, from employers who dare to embrace diversity to caregivers who tirelessly champion the cause of the autistic, therapists who work with families, teachers who create safe havens in the classroom, and doctors who provide early diagnoses. These individuals are the source of our strength.
Our goal is very clear: to establish an inclusive, joyful, and acknowledged world where individuals with autism are valued for their distinct contributions and given the chance to realize their full potential. We are stronger together as a group. We need you to be brave and support the autism community this World Autism Month. Pledge now to #ActFearlessly.
